Sending and Receiving LTB Documents during a Postal Service Disruption
There may be a Canada Post strike or lockout. Here’s what you need to know about filing and serving documents if the strike or lockout happens:
Options for sending forms or documents to the LTB:
- Send your documents by courier
- Deliver your documents in person at one of the LTB offices, or at a ServiceOntario location that accepts LTB documents
- Fax your documents to an LTB office
- Use LTB e-File to file four common types of applications
- Email documents for your file, but not applications. Applications cannot be emailed to the LTB. For more information about what you can email read: LTB accepting application-specific inquiries by email

Options for sending forms or documents to the other party (landlord or tenant):
Landlords and tenants must make sure that documents reach one another or the LTB in a timely manner. If mail service is disrupted, use an alternate method for serving documents to each other and the LTB. These methods include fax, hand delivery, placing the document in the mail slot or under the door of the rental unit. (See Rule 5 of the LTB Rules of Procedure for details.) If you decide to send documents by courier, make sure that the recipient will be able to receive them.
Serving the application and Notice of Hearing
During the postal disruption, applicants will be required to serve the application and Notice of Hearing on the respondents. The LTB will provide the applicant with written instructions about how to do this.
