Accessibility and Accommodations
Requesting an Accommodation
The LTB will provide accommodation (alternate arrangements) for people who have needs related to any of the grounds listed in the Human Rights Code. For details, read the SJTO Accessibility and Accommodation Policy.
To make your request, fill out the Request for Accommodation or French Language Services.
You can make a request for accommodation:
- in person
- by telephone
- by mail or fax
- by e-mail to: email@example.com
For a list of office locations, telephone numbers, fax numbers and mailing addresses go to Contact the LTB.
Make your request as soon as possible and well in advance of your hearing.
Other parties to the application will be able to see your accommodation request. If you are concerned about sharing sensitive medical information, call the LTB.
Accessibility at the LTB
LTB offices and hearing rooms
The LTB has offices in Ottawa, Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, London and Sudbury. At all LTB offices, the building’s front doors and elevators are accessible to people who use mobility devices such as wheelchairs and scooters. Hearing rooms, mediation rooms and washrooms are also accessible.
Other hearing locations
In other communities, hearings may be held in municipal halls, community centres, hotels, or other public buildings. If you are going to a hearing in one of these locations and want more information on the building’s accessibility features, contact us.
Information and publications
You will find all LTB information materials, forms and notices on this website. Or, you can call and ask us to mail you the documents. We can also send them to you in formats like braille and large print.
The LTB can provide visual interpretation services, such as American Sign Language (ASL), langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) or real time captioning for people who have a hearing impairment. For information about interpreters for languages other than French or English, see Language Services.
The LTB will work with you to accommodate any personal support services you use to help with communication, mobility, personal care or medical needs. The LTB cannot arrange these services for you.
LTB supports a scent–reduced environment
Because fragrances cause health problems for some people, please do not use perfume, aftershaves or other strongly scented personal care products when coming to the LTB.
When a requested accommodation becomes unavailable, the LTB will let the parties know, and, if necessary, reschedule or relocate the proceeding so that it is accessible.
